Access groups

Time to complete: 15–30 minutes
Prerequisites: You've uploaded documents to your Trust Center

Access groups let you show different content to different customers. Without them, everyone approved for your Trust Center sees the same gated content. By using access groups, you can create tailored experiences for different customer types, regions, or deal tiers.

In Conveyor, every document has one of four access levels (Anyone, Approved customers, Some approved customers, Internal only). Access groups come into play when documents are set to Some approved customers. Learn more about how these levels work in Managing document access.

When to use access groups

You should use access groups if:

  • Different customer tiers should see different content (e.g., Enterprise vs. Startup)
  • Prospects should have access to a limited set of documents compared to customers
  • You have partner-specific or region-specific documentation

You don’t need them if:

  • Everyone should see the same content
  • Your only distinction is between Public vs. Gated

💡

Pro tip

Start without access groups and add them later if you find you need more granularity. Don’t overcomplicate your setup from day one.

What you can do with access groups

  • Create and manage groups: Add, edit, or delete access groups that reflect your business structure.
  • Assign documents: Control who sees what by assigning groups to individual documents or folders, individually or in bulk.
  • Grant access to customers: Assign groups to customers when inviting them or by editing existing connections.

Common questions

Can I assign multiple groups to one customer?
Yes. Customers see content from all groups they belong to.

Can customers see which group they're in?
No. Customers only see the content available to them, not the group structure behind it.

What happens if I delete a group?
Documents revert to the Approved customers access level, and connections lose that group’s permissions.

Do access groups work for Q&As too?
Yes. Q&As use the same access control settings as documents.
